Keith Armstrong CEng FIET SMIEEE ACGI Keith graduated from Imperial College, London U.K. in 1972 with an Honours degree in Electrical Engineering, majoring in analogue circuit design and electromagnetic field theory. He has been a member of the IEE (now the IET) since 1977, a UK Chartered Engineer since 1978, and a European Engineer (Group 1) since 1988. Cherry Clough Consultants was started by Keith in 1990 to help companies comply with the emissions and immunity requirements of the European EMC Directive, as well as the emissions requirements of the FCC regulations (USA) and VCCI (Japan) – whilst simultaneously reducing design and development timescales, unit manufacturing costs, and warranty costs. Paul Duxbury Paul received a BEng Honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Hertfordshire University, UK, in 1995. Between 1993 and 1994, he spent a year in the RF and Microwave (Free field) section at the UK national Physical Laboratory. In 1995, he joined BSI Product Testing as an EMC Test Engineer and in 1997, he joined the EMC laboratory of IFR Ltd as Senior EMC Engineer. Paul joined Flomerics in May 2000, as an EM Engineer, responsible for providing technical support to new and existing users of Flomerics’ TLM based electromagnetic modelling software. He joined CST as a Senior Sales and Application Engineer in February 2008 following the acquisition of the Flomerics EM Business by CST. More... |

Dave Imeson BSc CEng MIEE Dave has worked in the electronics industry for more than 35 years, first for Texas Instruments, then 27 years in IBM; latterly as an independent consultant running his own company, Compliance Europe Ltd and with Hursley EMC Services. As Chairman of the EMC Notified Bodies (ECANB) he was a member of the SLIM Working Group responsible for the revision of the EMC Directive now published as 2004/108 and also editor of the group that produced the Guidelines to the new directive. He also represent them on the EU Commission EMC Working Party In the UK, he is responsible for the operation of the EMC Test Laboratory Association (EMCTLA) which coordinates the technical activities of the EMC test labs. | Ian MacDiarmid BEng MSc MBA CEng FIET Chairman IET Electromagnetics TPN BAE Systems, Military Air Solutions (MAS) ian [dot] macdiarmid [at] baesystems [dot] com Ian graduated from Sheffield University in Electronic & Electrical Engineering in 1973. After working as a test engineer in the telecommunications industry, a design engineer on automatic test equipment and a Research Associate on antennas at Birmingham University, where he gained a MSc via part-time research, he joined British Aerospace, Military Aircraft in 1978 as an EMC Test Engineer. Ian was technically responsible for the clearance of Tornado into service from an EMC point of view. He was responsible for the EMC and Lightning protection design and qualification of the Carbon Fibre Composite (CFC) Gripen wing for SAAB and the Experimental Aircraft Programme (EAP). He worked with others on the conceptual design of the EMH protection of Typhoon. More... |

Richard Marshall, MA (Cantab) CEng FIEE FInst.P As a member of the IEE’s professional groups on Electronic Design and EMC he has organised and chaired several colloquia. He has lectured widely on EMC and on Safety-Critical Systems. Richard has published 40+ technical papers and is named as inventor or co-inventor on 43 patent applications. He worked for Rank-Xerox Ltd for twelve years, gaining considerable expertise in photocopiers, facsimile machines, and office computers and networks. Later, he travelled widely, working with design teams in the US and Japan. He represented the company on the council of the European Computer Manufacturers Association and on its EMC technical committee. Richard Marshall Limited was founded in 1996 to undertake rf and EMC-related electronic design, consultancy & training. More... |

Tim Williams Elmac Services provides consultancy and training on all aspects of EMC, including design, testing and the application of standards, to companies manufacturing electronic products and concerned about the implications of the EMC Directive. Tim Williams gained a BSc in Electronic Engineering from Southampton University in 1976. He has worked in electronic product design in various industry sectors including process instrumentation and audio visual control. He was design group leader at Rosemount Ltd before leaving in 1990 to start Elmac Services. He is the author of "The Circuit Designer’s Companion" (2nd edition, Elsevier 2004) and "EMC for Product Designers" (now in its fourth edition, Elsevier 2006), and has presented numerous conference papers and seminars.
